4 tips for getting the most out of your workouts

Who doesn't want to maximise the effectiveness of their workouts? Better and faster results, less time and effort? Yes please!

Here are some tried and tested ways to maximise the results from every one of your workouts - get ready to embrace the best version of yourself!

1. Nutrition

Adequate nutrition is essential for supporting optimal performance and results in your workouts. Without enough fuel and a healthy, balanced diet, you simply can’t have the energy you need to be at your best in the gym.

While carbs have somehow been demonised in recent years, they are essential for fuelling your workouts! Complex sources of carbohydrates, such as brown rice, quinoa and sweet potato, are your brain’s preferred source of energy, so can be easily broken down into energy to fuel the best session possible when you’re hitting the gym.

Equally, protein, fats and fibre are really important components to include in your diet, to support muscle synthesis and recovery, hormonal balance (very important when you’re following an intense fitness plan!) and overall health and energy levels when you’re training.

Aim to include a balance of each of these essential nutrients, as well as plenty of whole foods like fruit and vegetables to make sure you’re getting all the micronutrients you need to support you in your workouts too. This is key to getting the most out of each workout, as it means every time you walk into the gym, you’re ready to give it your all, get your sweat on, and see maximum results!

2. Recovery and sleep

While exercising is crucial for improving your fitness, it turns out recovery is just as important as the workouts themselves.

Without recovery, your muscles don’t repair themselves, and therefore they don’t get stronger, and you don’t get fitter or see the results you deserve!

Prioritising recovery - whether it’s taking a day or two off each week to rest, booking into an infrared sauna or hot cold pools at Recoverie (both are incredible for supporting the body’s recovery), or even spending 10 minutes stretching each day, invest the time in your recovery, and you’ll see the results.

If your muscles are well prepared and rested, they’ll be able to push you much further in the gym - so you’ll smash your goals and be the best version of yourself before you know it.

3. Work out wisely.

To get the most out of your workouts, you need to make sure you’re doing the right things in the gym. This is where HIIT training comes in.

HIIT is a more efficient form of exercise than regular steady-state fitness, like running or swimming, as it burns more calories in a shorter amount of time thanks to the short bursts of high intensity exercise, followed by a brief rest period. It also continues to burn calories for up to 48 hours post-workout, meaning it can help you achieve your goals and maximise your results from each workout more than almost any other type of exercise.

Not to mention, it also supports mental health, as well as physical! For more on the benefits of HIIT training, check out this blog.

Don’t waste hours in the gym on the treadmill, instead smash out a 45 minute sweaty Symetrie session to maximise your results and get the most out of each and every workout!

4. Mix it up.

Ever heard of a fitness plateau? This is where you’ve been sticking to a similar workout routine for so long, your body eventually adapts and the results you’ve come to expect begin to slow down and stall.

But there’s a solution: mix it up! Changing up your workouts is critical to getting the most out of each session. Try throwing in a Pilates session one day per week, and maybe a beach boxing or yoga flow on another day. Mixing these in with your HIIT sessions will really help you get the most out of each and every workout!

Luckily for you, at Symetrie we offer so many different workout options - from HIIT, to beach boxing, yoga, Pilates, and even toning classes! So you have so much variety to choose from, to help you mix it up each week.
